Like many, I’ve made a lot of connections during my
more than 50 trips around the sun. From family and
grade school friends, to college and military buddies,
to business partners, and people I’ve met at seminars
and conference, or while traveling, I’ve met a LOT
of people!
I really LIKED many of these people and had every
intention of keeping in touch. However, like most of
us, life keeps me busy
In the past few months or so though, I’ve made a
point of deliberately sifting through my address
book, and contacts database, and reaching out to
someone whom I haven’t heard from in a while.
Currently, I do it by sending at least 1 greeting card
a day. I just glance at my address book, find a name
and then reconnect.
The thing is, you never know when a person might be
going through challenging times. That little “just
because” or “hey, how ya’ doing” card could really
brighten their day, shift their mood, and even shake
them out of a major depression.
I also make it a habit of sending at least one box
of brownies to someone each week. This is a habit one
of my mentors helped me to develop, and now I use a
system that makes it so easy it’s unthinkable for me
not to.
In fact, I’ve just gotten the bright idea of sending
a box of brownies a day.
I mean, think of how you felt the last time that you
got an unexpected box of goodies. I spent over 20
years in the military, and I can tell you that they
always lifted my spirits. I’m sure they do the same
for old college roommates, relatives, and even people
that you met at a business function.
I will confess that I mix business and pleasure. I DO
get pleasure from envisioning the friend relishing
in a scrumptious gourmet brownie, but when that friend
is also a business or joint venture partner, then it’s
also deepening that relationship.
The reason that I’m doing this more often is because it
is so easy. I can send my cards and gifts right over
the internet using this system. I do that everyday
now… even on Sundays and Holidays. The company
that I use just mails them by the next business day
Since I’ve traveled so much, and my business IS
international, I even use the system to send cards and
gifts overseas. I recently sent a box of brownies to
my friend Kevin, who shared on Twitter how much he and
his wife enjoyed them.
Anyway, I guess part of what I’m noticing is a longing
for times when people just reached out to each other
more. NOW, we seem so busy that many of us don’t take
the time to slow down enough to let people know that we
care about them.
When was the last time that you reached out to a sibling
in another city for example? Use this system and do
that today. Send them a box of brownies, or a teddy
bear, or a card that has an old family photo on the front.
The system that I use will allow you to do that. It
ROCKS, and it’s dirt cheap
